Cruise the Bay Thank You from Jack & Judy
Calling All Rodders,
A Special Thank You from Jack & Judy!
The 2009 Cruise the Bay season has come to an end. The thank you notes are being mailed to our sponsors, our Make A Wish donation is in the mail and of course thoughts and plans are starting up for 2010. But first we want to give a little 2009 summary report.
Cruise the Bay 2009 saw numerous changes - the biggest being that Cruise the Bay became a community car event with no club affiliation. This change opened the door to bringing lots of volunteers to help this event to continue to grow. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!!! - We saw some new parking changes smoothly go into effect – again thanks to all who helped implement them and to all who went with the flow and followed them.
And of course we saw the Calling All Rodders website become our official voice – helping everyone see and hear about all the fun they had experienced on Monday night and drawing in more helpers, cruisers and spectators.
The summer saw the following statistics go down in the books. We had 18 cruises, saw nearly 5000 cars visit us over the summer that is an average of 275 cars per night. Our 50/50 has enabled us to send an $1100 donation to the Erie Area Make A Wish Foundation. We were blessed with 11 perfect evenings -gorgeous Erie weather with some beautiful sunsets, 2 actual rain mode evenings & if you are one of the diehard cruisers you know what that means, 4 nights that saw rain in and around the area, but even those nights averaged 100 cars, and 1 night where everyone but me (Judy Miller) said it was just too darn hot!!
Again thank you to everyone who cruised in, sold and bought 50/50 tickets, handed out door prize tickets, gave out our sometimes silly cruiser gifts, helped with and or participated in the various contests, cleaned up, set up, promoted – you get the idea. THANK YOU!!! one and all for helping to make the 2009 Cruise the Bay season a fun and enjoyable time for all of us.
Take care and hope to see you in the spring.
Sincerely,
Jack & Judy Miller

The Cruise the Bay 2009 season has come to an end.
Calling All Rodders,
Jack & Judy have done an excellent job at planning and getting it all organized for our pleasure. A giant Thank you goes out to them from all of us who enjoy this event.
Thank you also to all of you …The Cruisers… who stepped up to the plate and volunteer you time to making this year’s event a success I personally know that Jack & Judy could not have done it without you.
And we can’t forget all the gracious Business Sponsors who gave their time and money each week to bring to the community a place to meet and have fun at a FREE family event in the Erie Area.
Thank you goes out to the Port Authority of Erie, for being patient with us and supporting us in getting the parking and burn outs under control. And thank you to all of you who complied with the new rules to save this event. You showed us how important it was to you, to be able to keep and enjoy this event.
For our listen pleasure and to make sure you knew what was coming up next we have to Thank Bill Mason our DJ for coming each week rain or shine and supplying us with music and announcement.
And where there are Cruisers there are hungry people! Step up to The Weenie Wagon for each week they supplied us with delicious specials at affordable rates. Thanks for being our very own Diner! You did a Great Job !
Now for you the Cruisers who without you we would not have been as successful as we were. Each week Rain or Shine you loaded up your family and came down to the Bayfront. You worked patiently with us thru the parking, the burn outs, and the planned entertainment for that evenings event. We had a lot of fun this summer and saw a lot of Erie’s finest cars and those from the surrounding areas as well.
The community also did a great job in supporting this event. We were filled to capacity most nights., in spite of the weather which always seem to clear up just before the start of the event. But even on those cold rainy nights we had dedicated people to fill the park.
Ron and I took turns supplying you with pictures from that nights fun filled event. They were posted for you to enjoy on the website, www.callingallrodders.com. Thank you Ron for helping me keep up with photos.
We had famous entertainers…Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Skaters, Hula hoopers, gum chewers, costume wearer, racers, your participation in the fun event planned for each evening provided the entertainment and success of each night.
All in all it was a great summer! And we can’t wait to see what is in store for the 2010 season!
On a personal note I want to thank Jack & Judy for providing me the opportunity to be the web voice for this event. And a big Thank you to Bill Mason for his constant support and help with promoting the website, www.callingallrodders.com. With their help and The Cruise the Bay event it has become a very popular site.

Last Tops Cruise In for the season
Calling All Rodders,
The season is quickly winding down although we still have into October to go. The car cruisin season will soon be over. Everyone is turning out for the last few shows in the area. Tops had the last show for their season tonight and they had a nice turn out.
The Parking lot quickly filled up shortly after 6:00pm. The air was cool but the fun continued and funds were raised for the Children Diabetic Foundation. The people in charge of this show do a great job. And I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the cause. They have not had the best weather this year for their cruise but they showed up each event and did the best they could under the conditions and we thank you for your dedication. Next year will only be better and we all look forward to your return in the 2010 Season.

Cruise The Bay Halloween comes early
Calling All Rodders,
It was a perfect night on the Bayfront... If you looked closely you would see strange creatures emerging from the corners of the Park n Ride...Could it be Halloween already? I know the summer has flown by but I could not believe my eyes as I saw... the Great Pumpkin appear... and then there were tiny witches flying around...the cars were transforming into characters...dogs and people alike were joining in the annual costume contest for the Halloween Night Cruise the Bay event!
We sure do have fun down on the Bayfront on Monday Nights in the summer. Please remember there will NOT be an event on Monday Sept 7 as it is labor Day, but join us again Sept 14 from 6-9 pm.
There are a few shows going on the Labor Day weekend so be sure to check the event schedule on the Calling all Rodders website.

Buggin State Street 2009
Calling All Rodders,
It's Summer ( I think) in Erie PA. That means its time to cruise the dock and Bug State Street. Anyone who grew up in this area knows that a great Friday or Saturday
Evening was jumping in the car and heading for the dock and cruise up and down state street was in order.
This tradition is again in full production as car owners from all over headed down to State Street in Erie for the first Buggin State of 2009.
I think the weather in the early part of the day out in the county may have cautioned a few people from coming down as the turn out was heavy but seemed to be a few cars shy of last years event.
But if you missed it there will be two more events, one in Aug and one in Sept. Check the events schedule on www.callingallrodders.com for more information.
The evening was filled will cars and food and music up and down state street. Every make and model, old and new, restored and in the process, a great family event.
And again it went off with of a hitch and the community enjoyed another Buggin State Street. A complete success!! Thanks to you all.
See ya at the next car event!

Uncle Charlie's Pizza Car Cruise
Calling All Rodders,
Hi Cruisers, Another night another car cruise! There are plenty of cruises in the area just about any night of the week.
Tonight we drove over to Edinboro, and again plenty of cruisers turned out to show and go. The parking lot was lined up with cruisers from all over. Some new cruisers and some of the old favorites. This is a nice show and is held usually on Tuesdays once a month. Check the schedule of events on www.callingallrodders.com for their next event.
DJ Bill Mason was there to play our favorite tunes, door prizes and 50-50's, the air was chilly but the cruisers hung in there and made this another successful event.
So make a point to run out to the next Cruise In at Uncle Charlie's Pizza Pub.
See at the next car event!

Cruise the Bay Hawaiin Night
Calling All Rodders,
There were lots of grass skirts and flowered leis around the bayfront Monday Night. They were all there to help us have fun at the annual Hawaiian Night for Cruise the Bay participants.
Many joined in the activities and the Hula Hoop contest was a favorite. The adults and children joined in the fun. Our Hula Hoop winners were...Kids...Jennifer Kuhn, Cassie Anderson, Madison Kennedy...Adults...Jill Dimattio, Kitty Holtz, Carol Struchen, Michelle Scheffner. There is always something for everyone to do at the Monday Night Car Cruise.
I want to add alittle note on where we are located. It seems we had a few people having trouble finding us last Monday. We are located at the Park n Ride Facility off the Bayfront Highway next to Sloppy Duck Restaurant. Take I-79 North until it turns into the Bayfront Highway, follow the Bayfront Highway to the water we will be on your left next to the boats in front of Liberty Park.
Another quick note most of you know there was an incident on the Bayfront Highway due to the illegal Burn outs being done. The Park Authority has ask that these burn outs stop and we have asked that they stop also. But a few of you insist on continuing to participate in these burn outs. Someone is going to get hurt and last night incident is a prime example of what can happen in a moments time. Please reconsider participating in this activity, and help keep our event safe. We need to be responsible.

Cruise the Bay Christmas in June
Calling All Rodders,
Well, there is a lot of things to get to tonight. First of all, we would like to thank all of you who helped with parking and you the participants for making the new parking rules run smoothly tonight. We had 217 cars to park this evening. As you noticed you really get to "cruise the bay" to get parked now but this will help keep traffic flowing and keep our event safer. We now cruise around the back of the park to get to our parking area. We also have opened up the parking area behind the DJ stand for show cars. The spectator parking will be back by the playground area and spectators will walk in from that area. Please follow the parking guides and Do Not remove any barricades. there will be no more parking by the curbs. These guidelines have been set up by the Bayfront Parking Authority and will help keep our show running and keep our participants and spectators safe.
Another big thank you goes out to Dennis Christopher for organizing the food drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Thank you for your donations to this worthy cause, it was a great success. We collected 237 lbs of food for the Second Harvest Food bank because of your generosity.
DJ Bill provided the music for tonight's event complete with Christmas hits. The Weenie Wagon provides the menu as always it was yummy!!
Tonight was Christmas in June, and car participants came decked out in their red and green to celebrate. Don't forget to check out the "Gallery" and "Cruise the Bay" page on the website to see what they came up with.
We had three winners, Bob Zewe 1st place, Pat & Beth Fedak 2nd Place, and Mr & Mrs Jerry Cattone 3rd place. Fun was had by all.
Come on down and see what we do for next weeks Monday Night Cruise In at Cruise the bay on the Erie Bayfront.

Cruise the Bay Special Announcement!
Calling All Rodders,
Volunteers needed for the remainder of the season!
Please help keep Cruise the Bay!
Because of the overwhelming number of cars at Cruise the Bay safety issues have arisen that need to be addressed and eliminated. In order for Cruise The Bay to continue, the Port Authority has stated that we need to make changes in how the cars are parking so as to keep all roadways open in the event of an emergency. Beginning this Monday, June 29th, with the help of Port Authority staffing, we will be required to implement new cruiser/spectator parking rules and regulations and to obtain volunteers to enforce them for the remainder of the season. The Port Authority staff will be guiding us through the implementation of the new parking procedures and showing us what we need to do. We will need all cruisers to be observant of the new rules and courteous to the Port Authority staff as these changes are made. The Port Authority staff will only be with us on June 29th, but the parking rules will stay in effect for as long as Cruise The Bay is held and they will be strictly enforced through fines and towing as needed. We need immediately people who will work with the Port Authority to help implement and then to continue to enforce the new parking regulations for the rest of the season. Without people to do this, the Port Authority will not allow us to go on. Please help keep Cruise The Bay; Jack/Judy 814-474-5183; email jzmjjm@aol.com.

Cruise the Bay with Black Diamond
Calling All Rodders,
Well the first day of summer lead into the Cruise the Bay event with over 400 cars again this week. The beautiful setting along with high tempatures makes a great night to come out and visit with your favorite car owner.
Black Diamond Live Band was the musical entertainment for this evenings event. They played many hits from the past for our listening pleasure. If you haven't had a chance to hear them play make sure you come out and see them at many local events this summer.
Jack and Judy are doing a fantastic job at keeping the event running as Erie,s favorite place to be on a Monday night! Don't forget to thank them when you see them for coordinating this event each week, they have many wonderful volunteers that also step up and help each week, with out all of you we would not have a place to socialize with our cars. An event of this size takes alot of time and patience to keep together.
We had all shapes and sizes of cars this week from small British cars, to Big Rigs!
Many different Trucks, and every kind of car and year make it down each week also.
Food is available from the Weemie Wagon they have a special each Monday and it is always very tasty! Plan on attending next Monday Night.
See ya at the next car event!

Cruise the Bay Line Dancing Country Night
Calling All Rodders
Well, we arrived back to the Erie area at about 1200 midnight and went off to work today and got back to the cruisin events tonight. Thank you Judy for filling in and writing the blog last week.
It was Country Music night and Line Dancing contests were the fun for tonight. Over 400 plus cars turned out for the event tonight it was a beautiful night and we packed them into every nook and cranny of the Park n Ride!
I believe it was the biggest show yet. Thank you Erie and surrounding areas for your support and participation. Because of you we continue to want to provide a place for you all to meet and enjoy the iron in our area.
The Weenie wagon was feeding the crowds and DJ Bill was providing the dancing music for us. Many joined the fun when the line dancing started. We had three winning dancers, they were Jan Russell, Tom Barron, And Linda Cattoni.. Although I think every one did a great job and made the evening fun.
Don't forget to check out the schedule and join in this weeks events.

Cruise the Bay Trivia Night
Calling All Rodders
While we were away on vacation you all were still cruisin! Jack and Judy do a great job at putting on a great Monday Night event along with all the volunteers that help out. Judy did me a favor this week and supplied the Blog information while I was away...
Monday dawned gray, warm and overcast. It threatened rain all day and of course it waited to arrive at 3:45pm just as we pulled into the Park N Ride to start setting up. It rained pretty good for about 1/2 hour soaking the streets and making the evenings attendance not look too good. But, Jack put the Cruise the Bay sign at the entrance and I began setting up our door prizes, Music Trivia prizes and Bill's DJ area inside the Park n Ride Building. Around 4:30 The Knight Family arrived, the sun started to try to come out and we continued setting up. A few cars began to come looking for food and their door prize tickets and telling us that the roads were drying. The DJ came with lots of optimism he said the radar looked good and we should get the tunes going... outside!! And we did when it was all said and done our evenings sponsor Bob Ore Restoration had their tent set up with a few very nice cars on display; the cars came - about 100 of them; Bill "spun the records"; the Weenie Wagon served their food, and the ticket givers and 50/50b sellers did their thing. All in all it was not the best night we have ever seen, but it was definitely not the worst. Rain or Shine we go on....... Sorry to say we even had a roll back on the scene - as one beautiful car took ill and had to transported to the garage. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week for Country Night when Line Dancing will be the order of business....and Brolks Landscape will be our sponsor. And last but not least the regular and much better writer will be home from vacation. SEE YOU THEN AND HAPPY CRUISING!!

Team Bounce Visits the Cruise the Bay Event.
Calling All Rodders,
Well it was another great event at the Monday Night Cruise the Bay Event. The weather seemed to scare a few people off. But they missed an excellent night to come out, the temperature was perfect and the rain held off until after the event!
We were entertained by some talents young kids, who found a constructive way to burn up that energy!! This group is called Team Bounce and they are a group of kids who skate and dance and entertain the crowds.
Tricks and routines, flips and break dancing, all done on roller skates! More kids need to be involved in this fun activity. They did a great job, and we appreciated their taking the time to come down and show us how much fun they can have on skates.
I know there are people out there who still haven't taken the time to come down on Monday Nights and join us on the bayfront. You won't be diappointed come on down and check out what we have planned for you next week. Check the schedule on the Cruise the Bay page of the website for a listing of the entertainment at the next event.

Save our Shriners Hospital in Erie, PA
Calling All Rodders,
Sunday was a great day to come out and support our local Shriner's hospital. They had a great turn out of car owners from our area, at their Hospital Celebration Day. There was food and music, tours, even chair massages.
We in Erie take for granted the wonderful facility we have in our own backyard. Many families travel great distances to receive the exceptional talents of the doctors, nurses, and staff at our local Shriners Hospital. I have personally experienced the care from this facility when our son was born with club feet and other problems. The staff and hospital was a God's sent!
The facility has advanced so much since 1981 when our family was blessed with their help. As you may have heard there is talk of them having to leave our area. I for one do not want to see this happen. I have post photos and information on the web site so that every one can have the opportunity to help out.
Please make donations to:

Classic Iron Conneaut Lake Do Woop
Calling All Rodders,
Saturday was the day to head down to Conneaut Lake Park. The Classic Iron Car Club did an excellent job in putting together another great year of Do Woop at The Park.
It started Friday Night from 6-9 with music and cars and fun for everyone carried over to Saturday & Sunday's event from 12-6. Each day bringing in 100's of cars from all over the area.
In the past this club has donated more than $17,000.00 to the restoration of the Park in hopes to keeping it up and running. There is a portion of the park that is not yet up and running but not because the people of this area are not trying to keep this historic park in operation. Many of us grew up spending alot of family time at this park and it would be a shame to see it end.
This club also runs a Friday Night Cruise In at the park. Every Friday night thru out the summer months. It you want to see some new and old cars from our area make a point to try and get in at least one Friday night in Crawford County.
If you missed this event they plan on doing the same Do Woop over Labor Day weekend plan to be there you won't be sorry, They also hope to have more of the park operational by then come on down and join the fun!

Cruise the Bay Blessing of the Cars 2009
Calling All Rodders,
Tell me Erie wasn't ready to start cruisin!
Opening night 252 cars participated in tonight's event. We started lining up at 5:00pm for our spot in the Park n Ride facility on Erie's Bayfront Highway, for the Annual Blessing of the Cars by Deacon Bob Ball and Flag Ceremony held by the American Legion Post 773.
Cruisers came to enjoy local car enthusiasts and had the added advantage of having their cars Blessed for the cruisin season. DJ Bill Mason was on hand for our listening pleasures and the Weenie Wagon was ready to serve up dinner and refreshments.
The weather co-operated and made tonight"s Cruise In a success. If tonight participation is a sign of what is to come we are headed for a great year! Make sure you spread the word and invite your friends down to the Bayfront on Monday Nights to enjoy one of the best Cruise In's in the area! Remember this years donations will be going to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Come on down enjoy the cars and help the community.

"Under The Clock" Resturaunt
Calling All Rodders,
What a beautiful weekend, I hope every one had a chance to get out and do some cruisin!
We went for a ride down to the peninsula this weekend. Sara's was packed so off to the dock we went. There were a few cruisers out and about we stopped on State Street to talk with the fellow cruisers and enjoy the weather and other cars driving by. Everyone is more than ready to get this season started after our long hard winter.
Soon we left there for some more cruisin around Erie, when we decided to stop off for lunch at the old Boston Store, Under the Clock, Restaurant. We had heard about this place but never had the opportunity to stop so today was the day. What a wonderful surprise! The staff was waiting at the door when we arrived, found us a seat right on the street so we could continue to watch the cars buggin state street.
Our server, Donna was a joy she not only was a great waitress but showed a genuine interest in our car and hobby. We spend much of the dinner talking with her about cars. The service was fast and the food was very good. The prices we very reasonable also. All in all we had a wonderful lunch. They also have seating outside on the patio for summer dinning. The restaurant itself was decorated beautifully.
Please make sure you find time to visit this restaurant on your next trip down state street you won't be disappointed. Ask for Donna as your server tell her Rex and Annette send you in.

7th annual First Assembly of God Show 2009
Calling All Rodders,
Hi Cruisers, many of you have been asking about the First Assembly of God Show. Iam sure it is because it is usually one of the first event of the season.
Well, today I got a hold of Rick Falvo and he told me there will indeed be a show this year although they have moved the date into June. Last years weather was pretty cold and rainy if you remember right. So they thought maybe the turn out would be better if it was just a little warmer.
They will again have food, prises and trophies. It is again open to cars, trucks, and motorcycles. If you didn't make it there last year make sure you put it on your schedule for this year it is a nicely run show with plenty of run for the cars and people. Supporting our local shows keeps them around for the next season. So come out and enjoy the event.

News about Buggin State Street Events 2009
Calling All Rodders,
This blog is in response to the Buggin State street events of 2009. As, I stated in an earlier blog. The 2009 event were possibly being cancelled. It has come to my attention that three event dates have been posted on the website,www.eriedowntown.com for July, August, and September 2009. You can find the dates on the event schedule of my site also.
I have received many comments on this event in emails to my site www.callingallrodders.com, I will be sending these messages to the Erie, Mayor's office so they can see how important it is that we keep this event in our area.
We are grateful to the organizers of this event in continuing their work on making this a one of the favorite car events in our area. Not only does our community enjoy this event, but it brings local tourists to our area from all over the tri-state area.
It has become an event that families plan around and brag about. It is one of the few family events that is attended and enjoyed by all ages. Grandparents talk to their grandchildren about days past. Many relive their teenage days of Buggin State,
Reunions have been made at this event. It truly is fun for all. Whether you own a car to show or wish you did, whether your car is show quality or a great hobby shared in that home garage, it brings families together learning the skills of older car buffs, bringing out your creativity, and putting a smile on your face and bringing people together for an affordable evening of fellowship with the community.
Make sure you check out the dates and plan to attend Buggin State Events in 2009.

Will the 2009 Buggin State Street events be cancelled?
Calling All Rodders,
It was brought to my attention today that there was an article in the Erie Times that there is a rumor that they may not be having the Buggin State Street events in 2009. As any of you know who have attended this event in the past it is one of the largest local car events held. Once a month on a Friday night in the summer State Street is turned into a Street of Custom Cars, Muscle Cars, Streetrods, Rat Rods, Speciality Cars, Antique Cars you name it is there and the public sure seemed to enjoy this event! As it is wall to wall people and cars. It is a fun filled family event that everyone can enjoy. I need more information on this. And I also have posted on the website (www.callingallrodders.com) that anyone wanting to comment on keeping this event going can email me (at annette@callingallrodders.com) and I will print and mail to to the Mayor's office these responses, in and effort to ask them to keep this event going. Many local car owners as well as many car owners in the Tri-State area participate in this event so we need to show our support for this event and let the organizers know we want to continue to enjoy the Buggin State Street Events. As well as support the local area business that are effected by our presence. Thank you for your support.
See you at the next event.

How do I start my own car show event?
Calling All Rodders,
I have been getting a few questions from you on how to set up your own car event.I have worked with,in the past a few different car clubs, helping in the planning of a car show.
First of All.....Deciding to have a car event is the easy part!!
1. IT"S A LOT OF WORK!
2. You need people to help.
3. You need to decide on a central location.
4. If a park or public setting you will need to check with the authority and make sure they have the insurance and event permits for you to be able to do this. Most public places want you to carry your own liability insurance.
5. If you are doing this show for a particular club or organization you will need to list that on your information and have their permission to use their name.
6. You will need a date and time and fees if any, decided on.
7. You will need to decide weather or not you want a judged show or not. If judged you will need knowledgeable people to be on that committee.
8. You will need to have people to park your spectators and car participants.
9. Are you going to have vendors?
10. Are you going to have food?
11. Are you going to have dash plaques?

The people who take the time to organize and promote car events are dedicated car enthusiasts who enjoy being with the public. Make sure you thank them next time you attend a car event.
See ya at the next car event!!!!
12. Are you going to have prizes?
13. Is there a rain date?
14. What type of car is invited to this show?

Happy New Year 2009
Calling All Rodders,
Hi Cruisers.. It's January 2009 already!! I have started to get new information for the events page in 2009. The planning has begun and the cruises and shows are getting scheduled. So, get those winter projects started and finished because it will be time to drive and have fun sooner than we think!!
Don't forget to get your information to me so it can get listed on the event page for the 2009 season. It looks like it will be another busy season. I can't wait to get it started.
I will be contacting some of the local clubs that listed last year in hopes that they have their 2009 scheduled put together by now. If you know of anyone who would like to list please pass along my website name and contact information to them so they can get a spot on the schedule also. I will be listing free these events they do not have to have a membership to get their date listed. My goal is to have a complete, informative list up asap.
Thank you for your support.. Annette
